How do I find slime chunks without mods?
Slime chunks are fixed per seed (10% of chunks), so you never need mods to find them.
Method 1 — Seed Map (fastest)
Paste your seed into our Slime Chunk Finder and get every slime chunk instantly, including Bedrock.
Method 2 — Dig test
- Pick a chunk you suspect (any chunk border you can see with F3+G on Java).
- Dig a 3×3 shaft to Y = 10–30 and light it fully.
- Wait 10 minutes AFK. If slimes appear, you’re in a slime chunk.
This only works below Y = 40 — above that, slimes never spawn in chunks.
Method 3 — Swamp trick (Java only)
At night, slimes spawn on the surface in swamps (light level 7 or less) regardless of chunks. Clear a 20×20 swamp platform, light the edges, and any slime you see marks nearby slime territory. Slow, but zero tools needed.
Bedrock note
Bedrock slime chunks use the same seed math since 1.18, so our finder works for both editions. Pre-1.18 Bedrock worlds are the only exception.
