Once you’ve raided an End Ship, the elytra turns the world into a playground. The trick to sustained flight is firework rockets — they work as boost fuel, and their flight duration controls how far each boost carries you.
Firework rockets as fuel
- Any firework rocket with an explosion boosts flight; a plain rocket (no stars) is the cheapest fuel.
- The flight duration (1–3, set by how much gunpowder you use) decides the boost power:
- 1 (1 gunpowder): short burst
- 2 (2 gunpowder): medium
- 3 (3 gunpowder): long, most powerful
- Flight 3 + any explosion is the standard for long cross-world travel.
Craft a full stack efficiently
To get a full stack of flight-3 rockets (64):
- 3 gunpowder + 7 paper each, plus any dye + one optional firework star — in a 3×3 grid.
- 64 rockets need 192 gunpowder + 448 paper + dye. A creeper farm (see the creeper farm guide) or a witch farm keeps you topped up; sugar cane farms feed the paper.
Boosting technique
- Fall (or launch from height), then press jump twice to open the elytra.
- Hold right-click to use a rocket — tap it in bursts rather than holding, to keep control.
- For distance: pitch down slightly to gain speed, then level out; boosting while diving converts height into momentum.
- Slow down before landing — hitting terrain at full speed kills. Use the flight duration to your advantage: short bursts for precision, long ones for distance.
Troubleshooting
- “Not enough momentum” — climb back up or use a launch pad / water column.
- Falling too fast — open the elytra and boost level, not straight down.
- Rockets not boosting — make sure they’re firework rockets (with an explosion), not just paper-and-gunpowder stars.
