Mending Villager Trade Guide
Mending is the single most valuable villager trade in the game. This guide gets you a 1-emerald Mending librarian — the fastest, cheapest path to infinite gear repair.
Materials
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Lectern | 1 |
| Villager (unemployed) | 1 |
| Bed | 1 |
| Emerald + paper | ~20 each |
| Curing supplies (if zombie available) | 1 weakness potion + 1 golden apple |
The reset method
- Trap a jobless villager in a 1×1 cell with a bed and a lectern.
- Place the lectern and check the trade: if it’s not Mending, break and replace the lectern to reroll (librarian professions reroll infinitely).
- The odds of Mending are ~1 in 14 on the first trade slot, so expect 10–15 rerolls.
- Once Mending appears, lock the trade: trade once, never break the lectern again, and trade daily to keep demand discounts.
- Optional: cure the villager twice (zombie + cure) for the permanent -40% discount — Mending becomes 1 emerald.
Common mistakes
- Breaking the lectern after locking — resets the trade to a random book and can lose Mending.
- Trading at night / letting villagers lose reputation — raises prices.
- Curing a villager that already traded — the discount still applies, but lock Mending first, then cure.
Prices
| Stage | Mending price |
|---|---|
| First offer | 10–38 emeralds |
| After first trade (locked) | 5–19 |
| After zombie cure (×2) | 1 |
